The Italian Cypress or Mediterranean Cypress is a great indoor bonsai tree which can be grown singularly or in groups. Originally found in the eastern Mediteranean area, this bonsai is susceptible to the cold which means that either you must bring it indoors during the winter or grow it in a fairly warm climate. They feature fine green/gray foliage which actually grows in flattened sprays. They also grow "cool looking" tiny elongated brown cones during the year, something that is somewhat rare in bonsai. Easy indoor maintenance.

Set of 2 Chinese DogWood Bonsai Seed Kit- Gift - Complete Kit
Manufacturer: 9Greenbox
Brand: 9GreenBox
Good Gift ideal for everyone want to watch their own bonsai grow from seeds. Good education and learning experience. The Dogwood species range anywhere from groundcover, multi branched shrub or tree, or a single trunk ornamental tree form. Dogwood trees are considered by many as the best all-round flowering trees. Dogwoods are most known for their outstanding display of flowers in the spring. Cornus kousa, also known as Kousa dogwood, Japanese dogwood, or Chinese dogwood, is a small, handsome specimen tree or shrub. This handsome little tree adds year-round beauty, for white flowers in May and June give a Milky Way effect, while purple and scarlet fall leaves add intense color. The beautiful tree form has horizontal branching. It is planted as a specimen, near a patio, or in groupings. The Kousa is not as susceptible to disease as the white dogwood in spring. Blooms later and with a softer-petaled flower than the white flowering dogwood. Because of its disease resistance, it is becoming the best replacement for the white dogwood. Kousa Dogwood has low water requirements and displays a moderate tolerance for salt and alkali soils. Partial shade to full sun. Grows to 15' to 25', 25' spread. Hardy in zones 5-8. In groupings plant 10-15' apart.

Ikebana as an art form
Ikebana (ee-kay-bah-nah) is the art of Japanese flower arranging. The object is simply to create something of beauty for the delight of others and, in so doing, improve yourself. The artist sees it as a discipline of the inner spirit for the ultimate purification of the mind and heart. No judging of the work is conducted.
Dating back to the 15th Century, this art form reflects three fundamental characteristics of Japanese thinking: an innate love of nature, an abiding love of line, and an instinctive love of symbolism. For the Japanese, flowers signify communion with the heart of nature.
Through the centuries, ikebana has grown to incorporate 23 leading schools. The first, Ikenobo (15th Century), advocates using the natural bend of branches. This school, together with Sogetsu, Ohara and Misho would be considered the leading schools.
The Sogetsu School has emerged as an exemplary contemporary school whose arrangements fit seamlessly in today's modern and traditional d/cor. The goal of your arrangement is to create three levels of flowers -- high, medium and low. The highest point should equal twice the width of your container, plus twice the height. The medium level is approximately 3/4 of the highest poin...
