Aglaonema is a genus of flowering plants in the Arum family and are native to Asia. Aglaonema 'Wishes' (also known as Chinese Evergreen) is a cultivar and grown as a houseplant due to it's intolerance of cold temperatures. Keep in temperatures above 59 degrees and normal household humidity levels. Aglaonema 'Wishes' will grow in an upright form and can reach a height of 3'. Aglaonema 'Wishes' can tolerate low light conditions. Keep soil moist. Aglaonema 'Wishes' is not recommended for terrariums due to it's large size. It will however make a great houseplant because it does well in low light, average household temperatures and humidity levels. Plant in the back part of the vivarium in soil/substrate. Due to it's large size, it is recommended for only the largest of vivariums. It does not like soaking wet feet but should never be allowed to dry out. Air circulation is not needed to successfully grow in a naturalistic vivarium. This plant provides cover, egg laying sites and great calling perches for poison dart frogs in a naturalistic vivarium. FERN: A fern is any one of a group of about 12,000 species of plants. Unlike mosses they have xylem and phloem (making them vascular plants). They have stems, leaves, and roots like other vascular plants. Ferns do not have either seeds or flowers (they reproduce via spores). These cool little ferns are clean and easy to grow. By clean we mean that they don't continually drop small leaves like other ferns do. When mature the fern grows soft "rabbits feet" around the exterior of the pot. The Davallia fejeensis, better known as the Rabbits Foot Fern, is one of the most unique and 'easy to grow' ferns available. The fronds grow out of a rabbit foot looking rhizome as you can see in the picture below. This fern does not need constant moisture like most fern do and will survive with dry soil for short periods of time. As the Rabbit Foot fern grows, so does the hairy rhizomes, totally engulfing the pot in a few years.
