This one is Oncidium Sweet Sugar, great for beginners, very easy to grow and bloom. It will dazzle you when it blooms, throwing out a spray of lovely yellow flowers that look a little like Cinderella in her ball gown. Mature plants can put out multiple spikes. If you've always wanted to grow orchids, or you want to go "beyond the supermarket phalaenopsis," this is a good plant to start a collection. The breeding is Oncidesa Aloha Iwanaga x Gomesa varicosa. But forget all that orchid-speak. Mature plants can have dozens of flowers per bloom spike and one of the awarded ones had 148 flowers open at once. Spectacular! We love this one. The full name is Miltoniopsis Pink Momma 'Yosemite Sam.' It's a clone of a not-yet-awarded but just superior plant. The flowers will look like those in the picture -- just stunningly beautiful. The breeding is Mps. Rose Quartz x Mps. Pink Lady. These orchids are freshly repotted in 3.5-inch pots. They are nicely started seedlings, 8 to 9 inches high. They sometimes bloom in the fall, but spring is the main blooming season. We think these are one to two years from first flowering, but well worth the wait. We have a bunch of these and we'll pick out a nice one for you. Miltoniopsis orchids are cool growers. Often called "The Pansy Orchid," many of them have a wonderful fresh fragrance. For home and hobby growers, we recommend them as a house plant.
