This one is Miltoniopsis Lennart Karl Gottling 'Hula Skirt', in shades of red and dark red with a white waterfall lip, a beautiful orchid. It's blooming size but NOT in flower now. It will put out stunning red and white flowers that look like those pictured. The breeding on this mericlone is Miltoniopsis Timberline x Miltoniopsis Pearl Ono. These orchids are in 4-inch pots and they tend to be spring and fall bloomers. They are not in flower now. They currently stand 12 to 14 inches high or more measured from the bottom of the pot. We have a bunch of these and we'll pick out a nice one for you. We always ship the largest. Miltoniopsis orchids are cool growers. Often called "The Pansy Orchid," many of them have a wonderful fresh fragrance. For home and hobby growers, we recommend them as a house plant. Just give them moderate indirect light, water thoroughly three times a week, fertilize weakly every two weeks. Provide a temperature range of 60 to 75 degrees or so. These do very well under lights. Simply dig a hole about 2" to 3", insert cutting side in and cover back up with soil. Keep the leaf about 5" above the soil and add water. Keep the plant in either partial or indirect sunlight. It can be grown in pot, or as we prefer, in a hanging basket with a well-draining soil blend.

This primary hybrid was registered in 1996, and the cross is producing some spectacular flowers in pink and greenish gold, with some striping on the dorsal and some spots on the petals. They really are lovely. The breeding on this one is Paphiopedilum primulinum x Paph. henryanum. The primulinum may impart some sequential blooming characteristics, so don't be too quick to cut off a spike after the first blooming. Pictured is one of the first bloomers. You can expect there to be some variety in the flowers, as this is a seed cross, but all should be really pretty. This plant is blooming size, which we define as likely to flower within a year or so. These have a leaf span of 8 to 9 inches, and they are in 3.5 inch pots. Most have multiple growths and we always ship the largest. These are easy to grow (good beginner orchid) -- provide moderately low light, keep from drying out completely, fertilize weakly (3-3-3) every three or four weeks.
