The Air Plant Xerographica (zero-grafika) is among the largest in the Air Plant family and is sometimes referred to as the King of the Air Plants. Xerographic as have elegant silvery gray leaves that begin broad and tapper taper to a point. The minimum size we ship is 6 inches wide for a tightly curled plant, with the average being 8 inches wide. As the Xerographica settles into its new home and grows it can exceed a foot in width. Their rosette appearance makes them popular centerpieces. Their unique features and origins make them great conversation pieces. Air Plants (Tillandsia) get their common name from the fact they don’t require soil. They are epiphytes, which attach to other plants or trees for support. Their roots are only used to anchor themselves and are normally removed during cultivation for aesthetics. They are not parasitic, instead they gather micro nutrients from the air and water in structures called trichomes on their leaves. As the plant dries the trichomes take on a white powder look. After watering the plant will return to a vibrant green. Air Plants must dry fully between watering because they are susceptible to rot if left wet to long. Xerographic as come from dry forests in higher elevations of Central America. They also make their home higher in the forest canopy than most Air Plants so they prefer a little more light and a little less water than others. Air Plant Xerographica care is pretty simple. Upon arrival give your plants a heavy misting. Our plants are shipped on the drier side to avoid rot while in transit. After an hour or two turn the plant upside down to remove any water that collected at the base. This could lead to rot. After this you can mist the plants every three days to a week. Their needs will vary with their environment, but in a few weeks you will be able to read your plant like a book. Just remember the best thing you can do for your plant is to let it dry completely between watering. Air Plants like as much filtered sunlight as they can get. Xerographic as are especially light hungry. They do like sleeping as much as we do so at least 6 hours of darkness per day will work and 10 would be ideal. As tempting as it is, use your Hinterland Trading Air Plant Fertilizer sparingly. Just a few pumps every other week when watering. As a special treat you can collect rainwater for your Air Plant, the nutrients in rainwater and pond water are more abundant than in the air or tap water, but this is not necessary.

Hirt's Superba Robusta Snake Plant - Sanseveria - Impossible to kill! - 4" Pot
Brand: Hirts: Snake Plant
Sansevierias or as they are commonly called Snake Plants or Mother-in-law's Tongue have a rich history of folklore and new science. These plants have a rich history of cultivation. In China, it was kept as a treasured houseplant because the Eight Gods bestowed their eight virtues on those who grew them. These virtues include long life, prosperity, intelligence, beauty, art, poetry, health and strength. The plants were kept near the entrances inside the home so that the eight virtues could pass through in a manner pre-Feng Shui. These plants also were placed in fine restaurants, herbalists, acupuncturists, doctor's offices, accountant's offices, banks, shrines, monastaries, and even in rice paddies. Sansevierias were grown and cherished well before the Chinese ti plant (Dracaena spp.) also known as the Good Luck Bamboo! The sansevieria is also referred to as a dragon for its many unique qualities. As with many Asian martial arts techniques, the strength comes from within. The sansevieria has been known to split large earthen pots upon reaching larger sizes. The Chinese have usually kept this plant potted in a pot within a ceramic pot often ornated with dragons and phoenixes. The attraction of this plant towards dragons is said to be magnetic. An interesting research program has been done by NASA using a few selected plants (one is Sansevieria) for air purification and to curb "Sick Building Syndrome." Growing the Snake Plant is easy. It will thrive in very bright light to almo...

Dionaea muscipula (Venus Fly Trap) 'Dente' is a cultivar of the well known carnivorous plant the Venus Flytrap. The Venus Fly Trap is native to the wetlands on the eastern coast of the United States and is a fascinating plant. Dionaea muscipula 'Dente' has a smaller trap then other Venus Fly Traps with short teeth and it also has narrow leaves. All Venus Fly Traps feed on insects and each trap will close twice and then die. Never fertilize a Venus Fly Trap as that would be fatal to the plant. Venus Fly Traps get all of the nutrients they need to survive from feeding on insects. Venus Fly Traps require a dormant period. Hardy in zones 6-10 Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant: Dionaea muscipula (Venus Fly Trap) 'Dente' will do well in a terrarium or container garden. It also makes a great houseplant provided that the soil remain wet enough. Venus Fly Traps have high water needs and should be planted in a good quality, well draining carnivorous plant soil. Provide moderate to high light. Josh's Frogs offers a wide variety of glass terrariums, container garden soils, drainage layers and other supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs. Vivariums/Animal Terrariums: Josh's Frogs does not recommend keeping Dionaea muscipula (Venus Fly Trap) 'Dente' with animals.
